Mar/5/07

layed out pattern on the Denim ,cut it out ,need to buy new scissors (almost all of mine are dull ) tomorrow. Will cut out satin Wed.

Mar /4/07

I struggled to put in the eyelet last night I bent it kinda bad , today I did a second one (it worked after cutting the fabric a bit) will continue until I finish at least one side.
10:40pm
I finished my fake corset (minus the finishing seems he ones that go over the edges) I laced up and took a look in the mirror , Looks nice .

Mar/02/07

I put in my second thru 4Th pieces of boning , I stitched (zig zaged ) the seam allowances (out and inner fabric) together (( for each side)), then I measured 1/2 in from the stitched edge ( Zigzaged then cut in between the zig zaged seams .

10:35 pm

I finished the other side as well, now I only have to put in the eyelets and finish the last of the seams around the bottom, and top.

Working Some More

Feb 25/07

I put in the first bone in the corset, was very difficult to put it in per her instructions. Just before I sewed the seam together that the boning was to be in I read my sewing book on welt seams, and did it a little differently from the book. I found a different way to put the seams together. I then layed out the fabric for my dress, I cut out all pieces except 2 (sleeves ,and flounce)

Feb 17/ 07

Today stitched up my corset seams now i have to put in the boning around the seams holding the corset together. the back fastener I put in the boning two pieces each side. Now I have to make the casings for the boning.

Feb 16/07
I went and stitched the closure (busk) into the front of the corset. stitched the back seams in then flattened the boning (heated with an iron and placed it under a heavy book), then I marked off the area where I will place the boning .

Sewing too Fast

Feb 7/07

Today I sewed the (fmp) the LEFT side, I put in the pin side of the busk , working to put it in w/o ripping the threads is not easy ( considering that it is corduroy I suppose that it isn't supposed to be), but it does look nice afterwards. I removed the stitching from the right side of (fmp)

Feb 2/07

Today I got my fabric for my dress and corset. I'm so excited about my project. I sewed together the front middle part (fmp) (I did the right side instead of the left side ) so I will have to take it a part now and sew the left side.

Continuing the steps

Jan 29/07

Today I went and layed out my pieces , ironed my Front Middle Part (FMP) and the Middle back Part (MBP). Pinned the right side pieces together to see how it would look on me. This one of the pieces of the corset (Side Front Part) (2)

Jan 28/07

Today I cut out my out layer for my fake corset. Tomorrow , I will have to set up my machine for the thread and the needles and such. I may even start sewing the pieces together.

Jan 22/07

Today I worked on the pattern for my dress (the bodice) I will cut out a size 8 instead of a size 10. I've traced the pattern on tracing paper then I turned it over and traced it again ,flipped it over on the drawing paper and traced it onto the paper. then i cut out the pattern once I had relined the pattern.

Jan 20/07

Today I cut out my inner part of my fake corset. then I saw an article in Vogue Patterns talking about foundation. I found out that i can change the the spiral boning and that my boning (plastic , fabric covered) is not very good for corseting . I also found that my velvet is not enough to make the corset . So I will need to get the velvet from another source.

Jan 19/07

Today we went to Vogue, got busk (12.49 each (yikes)) it's 9 in (less than 23cm). The busk is shown below.
I got my cord for the corset, and my hook and eyes. Then we went to Fishmans and got the boning for 1.30 a yard(covered). The boning is a little light-weight but I will use it anyways. I found out that I may have enough velvet to make my corset and not have to buy any. I lay ed out my pattern for my fake corset. I will cut it out tomorrow. will order fabric online.

Jan 16/07

Friday went to Walmart to get the supplies and fabric, got some of the supplies, no fabric.
today called fabric stores to find out about metal boning and busks'. Vogue had the busks' and plastic boning (metal was too long 32 cm ((needed 22cm)))

I may cut out the project tomorrow

Underbust Corset (HourGlass)

This is what I have written in my sewing journal at home so if the dates don't correspond that's why

Jan 1/07

I'm starting this project with a lot of preparation beforehand ,first I looked up corset patterns online, and found one at http://www.geocities.com/mekyria/corset01.html the website was a little challenging but since i like challenges this was OK.(reason it was challenging was that her English was a little off here and there, printing the pattern was a pain in that it would not let me get the whole page{the right side} (haven't tried it with a mac yet)). I had a little problem with drafting the pattern itself since the hip measurement on me is 85 to 86cm and her lowest is 90cm so I have done the fake corset pattern in the 90 cm *(another short problem is that I don't usually use metric system)I will draft a second one later on closer to my size, I'm taking a bit of a risk on this one ,so as soon as I can get the bones (metal or plastic) and the eyelets and the front fasteners, will buy 2 sets of everything so that I can make two corsets the fake one and the finished one.
